Al (Flip) Rosen should get some acknowledgement here. He didn’t win the triple crown but he came the closest, having one of the greatest seasons ever! He missed the triple crown by one point, batting .336 to Mickey Vernon’s .337. Rosen led in homers, rbi, slugging, total bases, and runs. 145 rbi, 43 homers, .an amazing .613 SP. He won the MVP award. By contrast Ted Williams did not win the MVP award in either year that he won the triple crown. (But he should have). Carl Yastrzemski’s tp numbers – .326 ba – 44 hr- 121 rbi – 112 r – 31 doubles are almost identical to Ted Kluszewski’s in 1954 – also a .326 ba – 49 hr – 141 rbi – 104 r – 28 doubles. Stan Musial missed the home run crown by one when he hit 39 in 1948, but he led the National league in batting, slugging, rbi, runs scored, doubles, triples, hits, extra-base hits and totals bases (9 catagories) Was that the greatest offensive season in baseball history? Who had a better year?
