Reggie Jackson, Jim Thome and the Top 20 Batters with the Most Career Strikeouts
Posted by Vin Getz
Jim Thome will come ever so close, but he won’t break baseball’s career strikeout record. He’s just a blip – 100 K’s – away from taking the all-time strikeout crown.
But it is unlikely Thome will get there, despite his propensity for striking out over the years. The 41-year old Philly barely gets any at-bats these days.
That means for the time being, and probably a lot longer, Reggie Jackson will remain baseball’s strikeout king. He’s got a sh!tload at just a hair under 2,600 whiffs. Jackson led the league in K’s five times and averaged 150 per 162 games over a 20-year career.
The actives (*) on this list won’t catch him. Alex Rodriguez has a shot, but will need to play until at least age 43. I don’t see it happening.
Check out some surprises here: The Big Cat in fourth? Mike Cameron – did he really play that long? Fred McGriff? Back-to-back MVP Dale Murphy?
