Major League Baseball: The Top 20 Road Teams of All Time

The 1906 Chicago Cubs: Greatest Road Team of All Time

The 1906 Chicago Cubs: Greatest Road Team of All Time

Today we wrap up, at least for now, Sports List of the Day‘s brief foray into the world of baseball home-road records.

Here are the previous posts:

Now it’s time for the greatest individual road teams in baseball history.

It’s tough to win on the road, and it’s only gotten harder over the years. Expansion, talent level, rabid fans, tailor-made parks for pitching and hitting, cross-country travel and more all conspire to make it tough on the visiting team.

So, it’s not surprising that only six post-1950 teams make this list: the top 20 road teams of all time.

Finally, the Yankees take a step back, and would you believe it, it’s two Chicago Cubs teams sitting on top. The 1906 and 1909 Cubs loved playing away from the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. Who would have thought?

Ironically, the Cubs won the World Series in between those years: in 1907 and, for the last time, in 1908. Those two teams made the list, too, a veritable road dynasty.

Where the hell did those 2001 Seattle Mariners come from?
